Frazier, Joe 1944 - . US boxer. Joe Frazier was born in South Carolina. His family moved north to Philadelphia when he was young. In 1964 he won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and on his return to the US he turned professional. He won the world heavyweight championship in 1970, which had been stripped from Mohammed Ali. A year later he outpointed Ali in a world championship fight but lost his heavy-weight crown to George Forman two years later. His last title fight was the epic 'Thrilla in Manila' in which he lost to Ali in the 14th round.
